The 90-Second Newbery Video Contest

Children's author James Kennedy managed to tell A Wrinkle in Time in 90 seconds. He challenges you to create a video that compresses the story of a Newbery award-winning book into 90 seconds or less. Are you up for the challenge?

Here is your homework assignment:

1. Decide on a Newbery Medal winner.
2. Plan your video.
3. Dust off your camera and start filming.
4. Have fun!

James provided these important dates:

October 17: Deadline for entries.

November 5: James Kennedy and Jon Scieszka are hosting the "90-Second Newbery Film Festival" at the New York Public Library main branch.

November 16: James is hosting the same film festival at the Harold Washington Library in Chicago.

Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech

Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Patterson

The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo

  1. Still mad Hatchet lost to Lincoln's Photobiography. Hatchet would have made the sweetest 90-Second Newbery!

  2. Thanks so much for posting about this, John!

@Colby: But HATCHET *is* eligible! Newbery Honor books are fair game for the 90-Second Newbery contest too. Go to it!
