Video of the Month: Kate DiCamillo on NBC Nightly News

Do you remember when two-time Newbery Medalist Kate DiCamillo visited my school library? I didn't mention in my earlier blog post that she visited Donna Kouri's school during the same week. You probably know Donna as my dear friend who goes on wacky road trips with me. I'm grateful that her well-prepared and enthusiastic  students spent time with one of the kindest, smartest, and bravest people I have ever met.

NBC Nightly News filmed Kate's visit to Donna's school and interviewed her students. I hope you'll play it for your kids in the fall.

Don't you just love the kid who gave Kate a 10 out of 2? I need to meet him.

  1. What a great message! It amazes me that she was rejected that many times and then became such a successful, powerful writer. The kids are simply adorable!

  2. I love her books. We read The Tale of Desperaux, The Magician's Elephant, and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane to our third graders this year. After watching this video, I love her books even more! Thanks for sharing!
