Cover Reveal for Moon Shadow by Erin Downing

Happy, happy Monday! I am kicking off the week by revealing the cover for Erin Downing's Moon Shadow. Erin dropped by to tell us about Lucia's story. Thank you, Erin! :)

I'm thrilled that I can finally share the cover of my next middle-grade/tween novel, Moon Shadow, with the world. Thanks, Mr. Schu, for being a part of the big reveal!

This story means so much to me, because it's one I've been trying to get right for almost a decade. I first started writing this book as a young adult novel many years ago. Dozens of full drafts later (and after letting this cast of fun characters marinate for a good long time in my "save-for-later" folder), I started over from page one - again - and rewrote Lucia's story as a middle-grade novel about the power of friendship and family, finding your voice, and the magic of the moon. It's finally ready, and I can't wait for people to read it. I'll have some bound manuscripts or ARCs on hand at NCTE next month - if you see me, ask for one! Here's a little more about the story that goes along with this gorgeous cover:

Ever wonder what would happen if - in one tiny twist of the earth - someone else was suddenly living your life with you? Someone who looks like you, sounds like you, but acts like...who?

Lucia Frank has never had time for her mom’s “new age” nonsense. She doesn’t believe in any of that stuff. All she wants is to figure out how to get her best friend, Will, back and cope with her parents recent divorce.

But then something strange happens on the night of her thirteenth birthday, the night of a lunar eclipse. When the moon slips into the shadow of the earth, Lucia’s Shadow slips out. Now hidden in a moonstone, the Shadow waits for Lucia to sleep so it can come out to play.

Lucia’s Shadow seems unlike her in almost every way: daring, outspoken, and unwilling to let anyone push her around. At first, Lucia is eager to undo whatever strange magic happened on her birthday so life can get back to normal. But when she realizes her Shadow is doing and saying things she has only dreamed about, she wonders if maybe things aren’t all bad.

With a little help from her Shadow, Lucia is turning into the kind of girl she’s always wanted to be.
Moon Shadow is the story of a girl on the outer orbit and the magic of a lunar eclipse that changes everything.

Moon Shadow will be published by Simon & Schuster/Aladdin on May 2, 2017. In the meantime, add it on Goodreads

Thanks so much to illustrator Julia Blattman, who drew the art for this gorgeous jacket. I especially love the colors and whimsical feel of this piece! (
