Welcome to the 2011-2012 School Year!
Yippee! Today is the first day of school. I spent the past two weeks preparing the library for this special day. I hope my students find the library inviting and comfortable. Here's to another year spent exploring, learning, and reading.
The graphic novel section will NEVER look this neat again. It is the most circulated section.
Elephant and Piggie took over the READER section.

Everything looks wonderful, John. Have a fabulous year!
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of printer do you have John? And what is your budget for toner? HaHa! Love this post. So inspirational.
ReplyDeleteBravo. You are truly an inspiration to teachers and librarians throughout the world. Keep up the great work.
ReplyDeleteWow you have inspired me! What a great library! Thanks for sharing your advertizing ideas: I am going to follow your lead.
ReplyDeleteKids love my Captain Underpants blow up doll, but I love your Pilkey display! From a bookstore?
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. I have been a Media Specialist for 18 years and this has given me a few new ideas! I wish you an awesome school year.
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Have a great year!
ReplyDeleteHappy First Day of School, Mr. Schu! My favorite thing HAS to be the urinal-read-a-book signs. You need to get a female teacher to hang signs in the girls bathrooms too! That is BRILLIANT.
ReplyDeleteIncredible and inspiring! Your kids are so so lucky to have you and your talents!
ReplyDeleteI love your library! It looks so fun! I'm an Assistant Librarian in the Youth Department of a public library and I want to replicate some of these ideas!
ReplyDeleteThat's it! I'm moving to Naperville and enrolling my kids! I mean, where else can you get a cool refreshing drink from the fountain while reading about When Life Gives You O.J.? Hey, is that an orange juice fountain? Doesn't matter... I'm sold.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. I have a lot of work to do! I put the new graphic novels out and they were gone in two days!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your feedback! :) :)
ReplyDelete@Erica - I'm glad you spotted O.J.
ReplyDeleteWowsa. Wowsa. Wowsa! I must come see this in person! This is awesome!!
ReplyDeleteOh man, it's not often I want to go back to school...but I gotta say, Mr Schu, I want to be at your school. Happy Belated Birthday.
ReplyDeleteWhere do you get all your fabulous cut-outs and posters?
ReplyDelete@MJ email me at mrschureads@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteWOW! Mr. Schu - Lucky student readers, who visit with you.
ReplyDeleteNice job utilizing your wall space! Where do you get your ideas? I would also like to know where you get your awesome cutouts and posters. :)
ReplyDeleteI am a children's librarian at a public library and I am always looking for new ideas.

Book suggestions in the bathroom even? LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteI see QR codes on some of your posters. Do you have the technology to allow kids to check out and place holds using the codes?
