November is Picture Book Month!

Picture Book Month kicked off yesterday! According to PictureBookMonth.com, "Picture Book Month is an international initiative to designate November as Picture Book Month, encouraging everyone to celebrate literacy with picture books. Founder, Dianne de Las Casas (author & storyteller)storyconnection.net, and Co-Founders, Katie Davis (author/illustrator) katiedavis.com, Elizabeth O. Dulemba (author/illustrator) www.dulemba.com, Tara Lazar (author) taralazar.wordpress.com , and Wendy Martin (author/illustrator) wendymartinillustration.com, are putting together their worldwide connections to make this happen. Every day in November, there will be a new post from a picture book champion explaining why he/she thinks picture books are important."
Every month is Picture Book Month in my life, but I will try to read EVEN MORE picture books during November. I think 300 sounds like a reasonable goal. I'm off to a great start.
I kicked off Picture Book Month by reading E-MERGENCY! to a first-grade class.

Three first graders said the following about E-MERGENCY!
1. It is a very funny picture book.
2. I want to read it again. Can I take it home?
3. Are the pictures by the same person who illustrated Duck! Rabbit!?
Borrow E-MERGENCY!, by Tom Licthenheld & Ezra Fields-Meyer, from your school or public library. Whenever possible, please support independent bookshops.
