Over the River and Through the Wood by L. Maria Child, illustrated by Matt Tavares
Okay, I should have posted this video before Thanksgiving. I did not want to wait a year to share it, so I posted it today. Please forgive me. Also, please forgive me if you have "Over the River and through the woods to Grandfather's house away! We would not stop for doll or top, for this is Thanksgiving Day..." stuck in your head for the rest of the day. It's stuck in mine. Over the River and Through the Wood reminds me of Mr. Grawbaw, my music teacher from elementary school. I can see him pulling the record out of its case and dropping it on the turntable. Yes, record. We would sing it over and over and over. Awww...sweet memories.
Thank you, Matt Tavares, for bringing to life a well-known song and for taking us inside your studio.

Thank you for sharing this. It is never too late! What a wonderful way to reflect on a holiday just past..
ReplyDeleteThank you! It's still going through my head.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing this, John!
ReplyDeleteWhile I was working on this book, I had that song in my head for about 6 months!
Matt -- It's a beautiful book. Thanks for creating a video. -John
ReplyDeleteP.S. The song is still in my head.
Matt - this book has been in nightly rotation for a week now over at the Savage household. My daughter Chloe LOVES it. And I love Grandma. Who is she?
ReplyDeleteP.S. Stuck in my head, too.
