To say The One and Only Ivan is one of my all-time favorite novels is an understatement. Let me be honest: The One and Only Ivan has inspired me more than any other novel. (That's not hyperbole.) I think of Katherine's thought-provoking novel at least three times per day and have a difficult time talking about it without getting emotional. If I were a rich man, I would mail a copy of The One and Only Ivan to every elementary school in the world. Yes, the world.

Thank you, Katherine Applegate, for walking in Ivan's shoes. You inspire me every day.

  1. The One and Only Ivan looks like he is having an incredible vacation.

And I get what you mean about being inspired by the book. I can't wait to share it with my class this year.

  3. This is such a cool book. Even my non-reading husband read it - and loved it! Great tour for Ivan. Next time in Starbucks, Ivan would like a drink too...just sayin'....

I have read it, and I am very excited about having my students read it. I think children all over the world are going to fall in love with it! I think I am going to buy a gorilla and let my students take pics with it. Where did you get the shirt?
