Thank You, Katherine and R.J.!
I will always associate 2012 with The One and Only Ivan and Wonder. Readers heavily discussed both books on numerous social networks, in my library, in book clubs around the world, in Mock Newbery circles, on Edmodo and Skype, and on the Nerdy Book Club's blog. Whenever someone asks for a book recommendation, The One and Only Ivan and Wonder are the first titles that come to mind---I want everyone to read and discuss these thought-provoking masterpieces.
Thank you for introducing me to Auggie and Ivan. I guarantee that in thirty years I'll still walk up to strangers in libraries and bookshops and say, "Have you read these fine, fine books? I promise they will stay with you for the rest of your life."
On behalf of your faithful readers, thank you for writing the most memorable and life-changing books of 2012.
Best regards,
John Schu

ReplyDeleteIndeed. Thank you from all of us. They will be true classics.
ReplyDeleteThese books have touched my heart and the heart of my students in so many ways, We still have book talks and rank books with references to Ivan and Wonder. I think the authors hit at the heart of a childhood need to be loved and accepted. I, too, will remember this year as the year of Auggie and Ivan. Thanks for the post.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to read these ... and get them into my children's hands! :-)
ReplyDeleteHooray!
ReplyDeleteLOVE. And ditto.
ReplyDeleteI so loved WONDER. What an honest read that so warmly deals with the many middle school emotions. And I just got THE ONE AND ONLY IVAN from the library. I can't wait to dive in!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mr. Schu, for introducing these amazing books to me! At your suggestion (through blogs, tweets, and pins), I read both of these books over the summer. I watched, with heartbreaking wonder, as you toured with "Ivan" and then met the REAL IVAN shortly before his passing. I will never forget the journey you shared with your followers. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteFor sure!!
ReplyDeleteFor sure! These two books are how I'll remember my first year as a "connected" educator!! What a great start to the 2012-2013 school year (my 18th year of teaching)!
ReplyDeleteThank you, these books have changed my life.
ReplyDeleteMy students had eight Mock Newbery possibilites to read as part of our YCTNN (You Choose the Next Newbery) project sponsored by KCLS (King County Library System). Wonder was their top choice with The One and Only Ivan a close second. I must give a shout out to The Lions of Little Rock and False Prince, also very popular titles with my sixth graders.
