Vote for the 2013 Road Trip Mascot

Almost seven years ago, we discussed the possibility of a road trip. Donna suggested going to Colorado to a friend’s pizza place and our road trip tradition began. As we headed west for the first time, we never imagined what an essential part of summer these road trips would become. We have driven more than enough miles to circumvent the earth, have visited each of the contiguous 48 states at least once, and have forayed into Canada on two occasions. Traditions have formed and have been repeated year after year. One of our favorite traditions is choosing which mascot will travel with us.

The One and Only Ivan visited the real Ivan.

Knuffle Bunny went on a dizzying tea cup ride at Disney World.

Scaredy Squirrel rocked out in Cleveland.

Frankie Pickle quenched his thirst in Las Vegas.

Wow, is that a giant Diet Coke behind Frankie Pickle? 7/13/11

Pigeon had an alien encounter in Roswell, New Mexico.

Although it may not yet feel like spring, the time has come to vote for this year’s mascot. This decision is much too serious for the two of us to make alone. Therefore, we rely on teachers, students, librarians, and authors from across the globe to assist us in choosing the perfect road trip companion. Please peruse this year’s candidates and help us find the ideal traveling buddy to accompany us this year.

  1. Last year just a few of my students voted, this year I am sure all will have an opinion!I will try not to sway them too much. Great choices!

  2. Oh, such a tough decision. Couldn't decide among Moose (for sentimental reasons), Pete the Cat (who looks so cool!), and Lucille Beatrice Bear. Eventually had to go with Bear. Couldn't resist the tutu :)

  3. Bad Kitty deserves a vacation, no?

  4. What great choices! I think they all want to charter a mini tour bus and go together. Moose has volunteered to be tour guide!

  5. Haha- My vote is split between Moose and Lucille Beatrice Bear...

  6. Oh my gosh! How hard is it to choose??!! This is my first time voting! I love them all! I like Kelly's idea. ;-) I also liked Erika's idea to get students to vote. I'll definitely be asking them to get on the blog and help you out. :-) Can't wait to find out who wins!

  11. But Miss Bindergarten is hurt that she didn't even receive an invite--who needs a holiday more than a kindergarten teacher?

  12. I still think Moose is going to go no matter who wins the vote...

  13. Bad Kitty for sure - you want to have fun and stir it up a little bit don't you? ;-)

  14. Let's give old Otis a trip! Maybe with his new friend, Puppy? Hard decision!!!

  16. First, before I say anything---having The One and Only Ivan visit the REAL Ivan is just too cool for words :D

I had such a tough time deciding, and wished I knew where you're headed this year, thinking it might help. I was figuring Otis, but ended up going for Duck and Goose, but there were others, too! They'll just have to wait *sigh*

    Another Donna :)

  18. It's a road trip, right? Why choose - take them all!

  19. Surely Bad Kitty could drop into the White House and say hi? If not a trip overseas would always be welcomed?! (hint!)

  20. Bad Kitty - cause he looks cute and likes to get into fixes which would make a trip great and exciting! Or just send Bad Kitty to me.
Please advise where you get the animals from what store cause they all are so cute! thanks.

  21. Totally love this road trip mascot - we are considering doing this with our grandson (6mths) to build memories especially with choosing one his favorite Yo Gabba Gabba characters. The hard thing is to decide which one. Thanks for helping us build our family memories with the road trip mascot.
