Author Ame Dyckman
Happy Friday! Are you ready to laugh and smile? I hope so because Author Ame Dyckman dropped by Watch. Connect. Read. to finish my sentences. We discussed tea parties, book trailers, Katherine Applegate's masterpiece, and writing. I wrote the words in red, and Ame wrote the words in black. Thank you, Ame!
I think tea parties should be held on alternate Wednesdays—EVERYWHERE! In subways, laundromats,
factories, the DMV... everyone would be so happy!
K. G. Campbell’s illustrations for Tea Party Rules are SO funny, I can’t look
at them while drinking anything. (Especially not grape soda. Had to repaint the
wall.)
Frog and Toad Are Friends, George and Martha, and Where the Wild Things Are
are three of the books I loved as a kid that
made me want to become a children’s author when I grew up. And I did! (Become a
children’s author, I mean.)
Katherine Applegate’s The One and Only Ivan lives in our
dollhouse, where we keep our Very Favorite books. There is something—a word,
phrase, emotion, insight—on EVERY page of Ivan
that SHINES. And leaves you more connected for having read it.
The Society of Children’s Book Writers and
Illustrators is why I am published. SCBWI taught me how
to write. SCBWI introduced me to my agent, editors and many of my kidlit friends.
SCBWI welcomes everyone. I love SCBWI.
Mr. Schu, you should have asked me how many cookies I gobbled to get into character for THOSE scenes in Tea Party Rules.
(But I’ll never tell!)
I am giving away one copy of Tea Party Rules.

Thanks for featuring my NJSCBWI buddy Ame. Great interview, Mr. Schu. Can't wait to read TEA PARTY RULES at my next tea party!
ReplyDeleteAme never disappoints with ANYthing she does, whether it's writing children's books, making REALLY great trailers (not kidding here!) or simply making comments about the kinds of things that make you spit your coffee (or grape juice) while reading it :D Love you, Ame! oxox And yes, I have a {signed} copy of BOTH these books. Lucky me :D
