Book Trailer Premiere: Reading in the Wild

I am THRILLED to premiere the book trailer for Donalyn Miller's phenomenal, thought-provoking, and inspiring book, Reading in the Wild: The Book Whisperer's Keys to Cultivating Lifelong Reading HabitsMy fluorescent yellow highlighter nearly ran out of juice while reading it. I had to stop myself from underlining and highlighting every sentence.

I spent the past hour re-reading the highlighted passages. I wish I could share the following passages with every teacher, librarian, and parent.

* "On the surface, reading seems like a passive act, but living a reading life requires some commitment.

* "I want my students to see reading as something that they do--not something remarkable or rare."

* "Our children shouldn't have to wait for adulthood to become wild readers. For many, it will be too late."

* "The more we know about books and our individual students, the better support we can provide."

* "The most effective reading teachers are teachers who read."

* "When we lead students to great works, we offer them a transformative experience, but only the readers themselves can define how reading a text affects them."

* "What children read shapes the men and women they will become, but what I want most for my students is the discovery that reading is a well that never runs dry."

* "When we tell students they can't reread a book they love, we put our goals in front of theirs."

Thank you, Donalyn, for being an amazing colleague, mentor, epicenter reader, and lifelong friend.

It was also so nice to see/hear Donalyn :) Now she's more than just an avatar on Twitter :)
