Author-illustrator Stephen Savage
Do you live near St. Paul, Minnesota? If yes, you should visit Red Balloon Bookshop tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. Stephen Savage will be there conducting Supertruck Superhero Storytime. If it were not 400 miles from my front door to Red Balloon's front door, I would totally attend Stephen's event. (And yes, it is exactly 400 miles.)
Since I cannot make it to Stephen's event, he dropped by Watch. Connect. Read. to chat with me about Supertruck, illustrating, reading, and picture books. I wrote the words in red, and he wrote the words in black. Thank you, Stephen!
Supertruck will help you get out of a snowdrift!
I created the illustrations for Supertruck using pencil, paper, stylus, tablet AND currants. That's right! CURRANTS! (I used them for the falling snow in the book.)
Whenever I get lost in what I'm doing, I feel happy.
Lauren Thompson and I worked together on my first book, POLAR BEAR NIGHT. Lauren had seen my illustrations in the newspaper and decided to write a book just for me!

Where's Walrus? and Little Tug are my first books as both author and illustrator.

Reading is something that's both ordinary AND supernatural at the same time.
Picture books are my life's work!
Mr. Schu, you should have asked me what my favorite picture book was as a kid: THE WHALES GO BY. Text by Fred Phleger. Pictures by Paul Galdone.
