Book Trailer Premiere: Delivery Bear by Laura Gehl and Paco Sordo

Happy Thursday! I hope you're spending the day surrounded by good books. Author Laura Gehl dropped by to chat with me about Delivery Bear's book trailer, Paco Sordo's illustrations, picture books, and story. I wrote the words in purple, and she wrote the words in black. Thank you, Laura!

Delivery Bear’s book trailer makes me smile every time I watch it! I love Zogby’s songs, which are incorporated into the trailer. You can hear the full version of the Fluffy Tail Cookies delivery song—and the full version of Zogby’s own unique cookie delivery song—on my website. Adults reading DELIVERY BEAR out loud can of course sing Zogby’s songs to any tune they like, but the tune of the ABCs works perfectly.

Zogby wants to spread joy through his town by singing songs and delivering cookies.

Paco Sordo’s illustrations are warm and funny. Paco made Zogby so appealing that I want to reach into the book and give him a big bear hug.

Picture books are powerful and could come with warning labels. WARNING: This book may cause laughter, tears, snuggling, deep thoughts, long conversations, self-reflection, and incessant requests for re-reading.

Story is a way for us to talk about our most important feelings, ideas, and convictions.

Mr. Schu, you should have asked me what I hope kids take away from this book. I hope kids laugh and beg to read the story again, possibly after a break to bake cookies. I hope kids recognize that Zogby follows his dreams, perseveres—and succeeds, despite a bumpy road. And I hope kids notice that Zogby initially tries to fit in but discovers the value of standing out instead.

Look for Delivery Bear on September 1, 2018.
