The Scarecrow by Beth Ferry and The Fan Brothers

Thank you, Mr. Schu, for helping us reveal the cover of The Scarecrow!

This book happens to be the book of my heart and seeing it brought to life by Eric and Terry Fan is a dream come true. Their art is truly luminous and they infuse the story with such life that I can almost imagine meeting these characters one blustery fall day.

The story originated from the idea that if there are scarecrows, there must be scared crows and wouldn’t it be fun if they became friends? Unlikely friendship stories are my favorite kind of stories, but somehow this story morphed from a friendship story into one of love, loss, redemption and hope.

It journeys through the seasons as the crow grows from a nestling to a fledgling to a full-grown crow who must eventually leave his beloved Scarecrow behind. The Fan brothers make each season so vivid, and each emotion so strong that you can feel the weight of the snow and the heaviness of the sadness that Scarecrow feels when his friend leaves. More importantly, though, you can feel the sweetness of the joy that Crow and Scarecrow experience when they are reunited.

I couldn’t be happier or more excited about this book and I can’t thank you enough for helping spread the word about The Scarecrow which releases on September 3, 2019 from Harper Collins.
