A New Home / Un nuevo hogar by Tania de Regil
Hello, Tania de Regil!
Tania de Regil: Hello Mr. Schu! I’m so happy to be presenting my books to you and your wonderful readers.
I'm so happy you're here to celebrate A New Home and Un nuevo hogar. Thank you!
Picture books are fantastic! When I moved to Sweden as a little girl, language became a big concern. I had to learn two different languages (Swedish and English) in a very short period of time and picture books really helped me with this! Picture books are also the reason I fell in love with books, and what inspired me to become an author and illustrator. Writing for children has always been a big dream of mine. Picture books are amazing because they can expand your world with the help of your imagination.
Mr. Schu, you should have asked me…What are your favorite things about New York and Mexico City?
My favorite thing about both cities is the people who live in them. New York is fascinating because it’s so wonderfully diverse. It’s really incredible to see people from every part of the world living there. It puts everything into perspective and opens up your eyes to different ideas and cultures. It’s not hard to imagine all the things you can learn, and all the stories you can find there. As a storyteller, that is something that is truly and utterly amazing to me.
As for Mexico City, I love that people there are quick to welcome you with open arms and warmth in their hearts. They will often try to make you feel at home, no matter where you come from.
Finally, this book has also helped me to realize how much more there is to see and discover. I am ready to travel the world, see more cities, and meet new people!

The book trailers for A New Home and Un nuevo hogar are the result of a collaboration between a very good friend of mine and me. I came up with the idea, and my friend brilliantly animated the images and made everything come to life. It was thrilling to see my characters move!
The trailer shows the story of two children moving away from their homes and all the things they will be missing. Little do they know that their new homes will be filled with marvelous new things to discover— things won’t seem as strange and unfamiliar as they might think.
The story comes from my personal experience of moving internationally at a very young age. I remember the feeling of uncertainty because I really didn’t know what to expect. I can relate with my characters, but I also remember the wonderful things that came with this big change in my life, and all the amazing things I gained from moving to a new home.
New York City and Mexico City are two places I’ve been lucky enough to have called home at some point in my life. A New Home is a love letter to these two wonderful cities, each so unique and special in its own way, full of rich history and interesting things to discover every day.
I hope A New Home / Un nuevo hogar helps those who read them discover that no matter where we come from, we are not so different.

Hot dogs, elotes, Lincoln Center, The Palacio de Bellas Artes, and Central Parkare just a few of the things these wonderful cities have to offer. Hot dogs and elotes are foods you should try if you ever visit these places. Street food is such a great way to get to know a city.
